Mentoring

Mentoring

Do you need a bit more help to push your manuscript to the next stage? Have you got the first or second draft complete but you’re not sure how to bring the whole thing to life? Maybe you’ve been given some general feedback or done a workshop or two, but you’re not entirely sure how to apply that advice to your writing? Perhaps you’ve even had your manuscript edited but you need some more guidance to figure out how to make everything work. Or maybe you’re really new to this whole writing thing and overwhelmed by all the conflicting publishing advice and jargon out there, still figuring out your own writing process, never mind the different writing “rules”.

If sitting in a class seems a bit intimidating, or you’d just like some one-on-one advice and support, a mentorship might be for you.

How it works

We start with a discussion of what you want to achieve and what you want help with. We will set some goals and a schedule to work towards.

What we work on — and how — will depend on your requirements and preferences. Some examples of approaches to mentoring can include:

  • feedback on and development of outlines, excerpts or chapter blocks
  • sample edit and discussion of chapter or chapter blocks
  • development of specific writing skills or story craft (eg: characterisation, pacing, structure etc.)
  • editorial guidance etc.

Time will be allocated in blocks of hours, the cost for which includes the editor’s time for reading, editing, meetings and discussion etc.

If you already have a specific goal in mind, or mentoring doesn’t sound like quite the right fit, we also offer book coaching.

Limited spots available. For more information, or to enquire about bookings, please fill out this form or book a no-obligation discovery call.
